The only thing I buy now and pay later for is my iPhone. That's because it's the same price if I pay all in one go or monthly. Though when I was in my twenties I got sucked into a lot of store credit cards. I eventually paid them off, but paid a heck of a lot of interest that I couldn't afford.
In NZ we have 'lay by' which means you go in and pay off some of the cost of an item gradually and then get it when you've paid. Recently, this has been replaced by a 'pay over 4 weeks/months' arrangement, which I'm not sure is wise for the young shoppers it's aimed at.
