I moved my newsletter to Substack to embrace the community features of the platform.
I wanted to allow fans of my writing to engage with me and my work in a way that’s not possible through my daily writing on Medium.
I am excited to announce what that is going to look like going forward.
As many of you know, I recently published my first book “The Financial Freedom Equation.” This was a completely self-published book, so I had to learn everything about writing, formatting, and marketing a book all on my own.
I have loved the process and am already outlining my second book, and I want your help writing it.
Well, I don’t want help to actually “Write the book,” but I want your help and input on what the final product looks like.
Over the next year, I will be releasing my next book chapter by chapter to paid subscribers of this newsletter.
This will not only be a sneak peek of the book, but you get to help guide final decisions. This is going to be a book focused on investing, and I am writing it for you, the awesome people who read my work.
Investing is by far the trickiest subject in personal finance to write about. How far down the rabbit hole do I go in detail? I don’t want the book to be unreadable to people just getting started with investing, but I want to go deeper with data and evidence than you typically see in an investment book.
Getting that balance right is one of the many ways you’ll be able to give your opinion. Here’s how I envision it working: I send out a draft chapter, you give me feedback on what works and what doesn’t, and I take that feedback and make adjustments for the final version.
Or, you can just sitback and enjoy getting an advance copy of my next book and an inside look at how the “book writing sausage gets made.”
The first thing I’d love your feedback on is the title. Right now, my stand-in title is “passive wealth,” as this will be a book about passive investing. I am not married to this title at all.
Other titles I am considering:
The rational investor
Invest like an economist
Let me know in the comments which of these three titles you like best (or pitch me a new one.)
Moving forward, the Chapters will be released to paid subscribers on Tuesdays. Will it be every single Tuesday? No. I’ll release the chapters as they are written, and I don’t want to rush that process. But expect at least two chapters per month through this newsletter.
So, if you want to join in this process, you need to be a paid subscriber. Have questions or concerns about becoming a paid subscriber, simply reply to this email and ask me.
Already a paid subscriber? Great (and thank you) you don’t need to do anything, the first chapter will be arriving in your inbox in the near future.
Don’t want to become a paid subscriber? Totally cool. You don’t need to do anything; you will still receive the free Friday newsletter like you have been.
Thanks to all your support in reading my work, I can’t wait to continue to find more ways to engage with all you wonderful people in 2022.
Cheers,
Ben
Of the 3 options, I like "The Rational Investor" the best with a sub-title along the lines of "A guide on how to actually build passive wealth".
Huge fan of your work Ben. I'm in the PF space too and it's just so damn refreshing reading your sound perspective on so many different financial topics.
I always walk away learning something new so thanks for the ongoing education and enlightenment!
Started reading your first book and I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. And I'm already looking forward to the second one :-)
Btw, is this the only platform you're on now? Wondering if I should sign up here and cancel my Medium membership since I only subscribed to it to read your articles :-)
Thanks.
Ok. It’s your project and how you manage it us up to you. Your fans will be glad to participate, I’m sure. Best of luck.
