A Tour De Force on Investing in Stocks, Crypto & Gold
The best piece of financial content I consumed this week
One of the main purposes of this newsletter is to share with you the financial content I consume to help me research my long-form writing on personal finance.
Some weeks I might share a research paper, or an article, a podcast, or really any piece of content that had me taking notes and learning something new.
This week, I want to share with you a podcast episode that is 2-hours long but worth every minute of your time.
The Rational Reminder Podcast is the best finance podcast on the internet. The hosts are incredibly knowledgable, and their guests rank among the top financial minds in the world.
This week their guest was Campbell R. Harvey, who is Professor of Finance at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, and a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
In this episode professor, Harvey explains the most important concepts from his career researching financial markets. If you want to learn more about how financial markets work, this episode is for you.
Topics covered.
How emerging markets fit into asset allocation.
Why academic researchers are given the wrong incentives in their research.
Why most research on “factor investing” is wrong.
Why gold is a terrible hedge for inflation unless your investment horizon is 2,000 years.
He also provides a history of his involvement and research into the cryptocurrency space.
Here’s the episode. I’d recommend listening with a pen and paper.
