I Got a Book Deal with a Major Publisher!
This book might be the best thing I've ever written. Here's how to get it.
The plan was for summer 2022 to be all about rest and relaxation.
My wife and I, plus our son and cat, drove 2,000 Km to spend all of July and August visiting family and friends in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The idea was I would work remotely 50% of the time, and the rest of the summer we would spend at the beach, traveling around the Maritimes and cruising on sailboats.
Then near the end of July, I got an email that turned the summer from max relaxation to more work than I’ve ever done. The email was from an editor at Penguin Random House asking me if I would ever be interested in writing a book for them.
They told me they had read my articles on investing and thought I was a good fit to write a book that simplifies investing and provides practical tips for people to grow their wealth.
I $hit you not; I was half a second away from deleting the email because my initial reaction was, “This must be some kind of scam.” I had no clue how the traditional publishing world worked. I assumed that to get a book deal, you had to either be a celebreality or have a powerful literary agent on your side.
I had neither.
Thankfully I took 30 seconds to look up the editor's name on LinkedIn, and sure enough, it said this person worked for Penguin Random House.
This was, in fact, really happening.
They told me that they had a concept for a book, and they needed the right author to write it. They already had the title “The Investor’s Mindset.” They wanted the book to be an evidence-based guide to investing with practical personal finance tips and a focus on cultivating a long-term mindset to help people stay invested during tough times.
After our initial meeting, I went home and outlined the entire book. I instantly knew what this book needed to be.
The entire concept of the book can be summarized by my favorite quote from Warren Buffett:
“To invest successfully does not require a stratospheric IQ, unusual business insights, or inside information.
What’s needed is a sound intellectual framework for making decisions and the ability to keep emotions from corroding the framework.”
The book has two parts.
In part 1, I help readers build the “sound intellectual framework” to manage their finances and build a simple, profitable investment portfolio.
In part 2, I guide readers through the hardest part of investing “keeping emotions from corroding the framework.” I review all of the cognitive biases that make people naturally bad at long-term investing and provide tips on cultivating a “rationally optimistic” mindset to stay invested for the long run.
If you have been reading my work for a long-time, you will love this book. I’ve put all my best ideas about how to build wealth into this book. I’ve also toned down some of the overly technical language I have used in the past. This is a book anybody can pick up and read cover to cover without having to Google a bunch of finance terms.
This might be the best thing I have ever written.
I am incredibly proud of the book and can’t wait for you to read it.
The Investor’s Mindset publishes on August 8th, and you can pre-order the book here.
Let's make this book a bestseller
My first two books were self-published, so I never considered the idea that they could make any bestseller lists.
But with what I believe to be a best-seller-worthy book in hand and the backing of one of the largest publishers in the world, the idea of hitting a bestseller list feels possible.
But I am going to need your help.
After some research, I discovered it’s not as hard to make a bestseller list as I thought.
For example, if every single person reading this pre-ordered the book, The Investor’s Mindset would be a New York Times Bestseller.
We can absolutely make this book a NYT bestseller. The most important thing to getting to a bestseller list is a lot of pre-orders.
Here’s what I propose we do to make sure we get on that bestseller list.
If you pre-order a second copy for a friend or family member, I’ll give you a 60% discount on a 1-year Subscription to this publication.
If you pre-order three copies of the book, I’ll give you a 50% lifetime discount on a subscription to this publication.
If you pre-order multiple copies of the book, email me a screenshot of your receipt to info@benlefort.com, and I’ll send you the discount codes.
A subscription to Making of a Millionaire also gets you free copies of my first two self-published books, plus access to all my paywalled posts.
If we can make this book a best seller, I can avoid ever raising the cost of subscriptions or stuffing my articles full of ads.
Thanks for your support over the years. This opportunity would never have been possible without a whole bunch of amazing readers.
Cheers,
Ben
PS: Huge thanks to

So stoked for you! But more selfishly, I’m stoked to read your book!! I preordered! 🙌🏼❤️
